I have recently gotten my hands on a gaming laptop, the THUNDEROBOT 911-AIR-2733. It was just launched a few months ago and it has been receiving a lot of attention from some avid PC gamers. I understood that the price, specs and also the form factor are part of the reasons why the THUNDEROBOT 911 Air is an attractive gaming laptop. Do read on to find out what I have to say about it.

SPECIFICATIONS
First of all, lets talk about the technical specification. The THUNDEROBOT 911 Air is powered by Intel® Coffee Lake with i7-8750H (9M 2.2Ghz), 8GB DDR4 ram (2 slots upgradable up to 32GB of ram), 1TB SATA HDD rom and the latest NVMe 128GB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti 4GB graphic card and a 15.6” FHD IPS-Level, 16:9 display screen. On paper, everything seems to be quite on par with most of the current gaming requirement.

DESIGN
The THUNDEROBOT 911 Air has a dull bluish-grey metal plastic build. The back of the display has a more solid build than the keyboard area and the bottom. The material at the bottom felt a little thin but I believe that it’s better for the heat management. I like the overall look of the laptop. It’s stylish, not boring and yet does not have the obvious gaming laptop design. So for those who prefer a laptop design that is stylish and not too striking as a gaming laptop, you would definitely want this.

HARDWARE FEATURE
It comes with an USB-C 3.1 port, an USB 3.1 port, an HDMI 2.0 port, a RJ-45 Lan port, a DC-in for the charger, a SD card reader, audio combo jack and also a laptop security slot. No DVD/Blu-ray Drive or fingerprint scanner feature but it’s not a big issue to me. The touchpad size is adequate, being quite responsive and also easy to get used to. The keyboard has surface carving and comes with white backlight that can be adjusted in two brightness levels. I secretly wish that they could have just copied the brightness level on Apple MacBook Pro keyboard.

WEIGHT AND SIZE
I personally like its form factor, not too huge for me to carry around and the most positive part of this laptop is the weight. Merely over 2kg, it’s slightly lighter than my old 13” Apple Macbook Pro. It felt like a 14” laptop but the display size is 15.6” due to the 6mm thin side bezel. The 15.6” FHD IPS-Level, 16:9 display screen is bright, not reflective and has good viewing angle.

PERFORMANCE
Booting up the laptop, it took about 13 seconds and approximately 9 seconds to shut it down. As for restart, it took the longest time at 32 seconds. It is still considerably above average for today’s standard. I have seen a few gaming laptops at this price point that are not even close to the mentioned time. For gaming, I maxed out all the graphic setting while playing CS:GO, Dota 2 and Fortnite. The laptop handled all three games very well and I was quite impressed with the gaming experience. As for normal usage such as web browsing, watching videos and some quick photo editing, there were no hiccups whatsoever.

AUDIO QUALITY
The speakers are located in between the keyboard and the display. It features Sound Blaster Cinema 5 and certification, the latest Reality 3D technology simulate 5.1/7.1 virtual surround sound bringing the immersive experience. It’s loud but somehow I felt that it’s lacking in terms of clarity of the audio. I do hope that they will improve on this in the future.

NOISE AND HEAT MANAGEMENT
As for the noise, the THUNDEROBOT 911 Air is well… not too bad for a gaming laptop. You just can’t expect it to be quiet all the time. There were a few instances that it became noisy when I opened a couple of website tabs on Chrome but a few minutes later, it silenced down. For cooling, it has 3 copper heat pipe of free conduction and dual enhanced fans to prepare for maximum efficiency air cooling. The overall keyboard panel didn’t feel too hot during my gaming session but it’s hotter on the right side of the keyboard compared to the other areas of the laptop.

BATTERY LIFE
Charging the 4,550mAh battery with monitor on full brightness and keyboard backlight on took about 1 hour and 20 minutes without using it at all. The battery life is quite decent although there are a lot of laptops out there that claimed to last 4-5 hours on a single charge. I used it for web browsing, downloaded Steam and a few games, watched a few YouTube videos with full volume, monitor on full brightness and keyboard LED on. It lasted about 2 hours and 36 minutes from full charge to 8% of battery life. On a normal usage, I believe it should be able to last for more than 3 hours. For gaming with highest graphic setting, it lasted almost 2 hours playing those three games which I have mentioned earlier, back to back.

PRICE
The THUNDEROBOT 911 Air retails at RM4,799.00 but we can get it at a slightly lower price from the local e-commerce stores. For the specification and hardware that we are getting, I find that this is one of the good buys out there.

.: Peace Out :.
