The Start of Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial Arts (MIMMA) Season 3 - Electricfying JB!

Brace yourselves, one of the most epic journeys in mixed martial arts history has begun as we scour the country yet again to unearth more local talents at the grass roots level. We head to the edge of the peninsular, erecting the glorious MIMMA cage, for MMA hopefuls in Johor to unleash their talents with the goal of impressing our judges, which will secure them a place to fight in The Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial Arts Season 3.

Johor always provides a superb mixture of MMA talents and characters thanks to its active involvement in MMA and other stand-alone martial arts. The gyms here also send their amateur fighters to compete in amateur competitions in Singapore. Two-time MIMMA Middleweight Champion, Jing Yi Chong, has become a household name, and a source of inspiration to young MMA talents in Johor Bahru as they brave the challenges to realise their dreams.

Jason Lo states, “The MMA scene in Malaysia has bloomed tremendously over the past couple of years with efforts from all quarters including the gyms, the fans and the fighters themselves. Having the first tryouts in Johor Bahru symbolizes a great start to a great journey as we all know that the depth of love for MMA among the community here is very profound.”

“We are excited to start season 3 as amateur fighters who will be going for the tryouts will more knowledgeable and well-trained. They should already know what to expect because I am sure they have been taking points from the previous 2 seasons. The amateur scene is healthy now. It is the most electrifying season, so let’s get the ball rolling!” he added.

Johor Bahru City Square has witnesses a huge turn up for the tryouts with more than 250 participants came to show their skills. We were very amazed by the female as well the foreign fighters who came over the weekend as they came all prepared mentally and physically. Expectations are very high as the locals are known to be greatly driven by their state pride. The presence of The Ultimate Beatdown, the oldest MMA promotion in the country, is another important catalyst to boost the talents in the southernmost state in Malaysia.

The question on everyone’s mind now is “Will we be seeing another champion coming out of Johor?” Stay tuned to find out more...

A Weekend Getaway in Kluang (Part 1) - Visit to Kluang Mall

$

Earlier this year, I was invited to visit Kluang - a town and district located near the middle of the state of Johor in the southern portion of peninsular Malaysia. Kluang lies about 110 km north of Johor Bahru, east-southeast of Batu Pahat, west of Mersing and south of Segamat. My trip with a few other bloggers started from KL Sentral which took us less than 4 hours to reach Kluang and our very first destination is Kluang Mall.

The main entrance of Kluang Mall.
Kluang Mall is the leading shopping centre in central Johor. Opened in 2008, it is located in the town centre of Kluang, serving a district population catchment of over 314,400. Situated approximately 20 kilometres from the North-South Expressway, the shopping centre is the top destination for consumers in central Johor. Upon reaching Kluang Mall, our stomach were growling and we knew that we must try some of their local food there.

We were immediately brought to a makan place at Kluang Food Street where we can find some local food prepared by the locals.

The interior of Kluang Food Street is really worth admiring as some of the vintage items displayed there are donated by the collectors.

Just look at the way the hang the items on the pillars, it's simple yet interesting.
I do like this kind of concept a lot.

There's various kind of noodles dishes and others can be found but one of the most highlighted is the Kluang's Beef Noodles.

Kluang's Beef Noodles
The Kluang's Beef Noodles not to be confused with Tangkak Beef Noodles. It doesn't consist as much soup as Tangkak's, it felt like a dry beef noodle with lots of gravy in it. The taste isn't too heavy nor light and I am very sure that one bowl probably wasn't going to be enough if you are feeling really hungry. There's a shop in Taman Bahagia PJ that sell this noodle but it's a little too costly.

Hakka Lei Cha
Hakka Chinese would be vary familiar with this dish, it consist of various kind of vegetables, shallot, eggs, peanuts and topped with lei cha a ground tea based gravy that is blended with peanuts, basil, mint and potato leaves.

To quench our thirst, most of us ordered the ice coffee and soya bean drinks.

After the meal, then only we were given a tour to explore the retail shops available in Kluang Mall. You can see there's a bat wearing a Kluang Mall necklace on the picture above, why a bat? Simply because Kluang is actually a shorten named for Keluang - 'bat' in Malay language.

Anchored by Pacific Hypermarket & Department Store, MBO Cinemas, Popular Bookstore, Sen Q and Ampang SuperBowl, the mall features over 160 specialty retail shops offering a quality retail and leisure experience. With over 335,594 sq ft of retail space and 1,129 car park bays, Kluang Mall provides the platform of choice for shoppers and retailers in the Kluang district.

Kluang Mall is developed and managed by Tenaga Nusantara Sdn Bhd, a related company of Majupadu Development Sdn Bhd, the leading commercial and residential developer in Kluang, Johor.

Kluang Mall transformed Kluang into a thriving urban neighborhood, bringing in big city brands including Popular Book Store, PDI, SenQ Electrical Store, Starbucks, Sakae Sushi, Secret Recipe, Sushi King, The Body Shop, Big Apple Donuts & Coffee, KFC, Pizza Hut, Old Taste Café and more.

It was nearly Chinese New Year and it's the Year of the Goat, this dog-looking goats were placed as deco. Haha...
Kluang Mall is the largest ‘lifestyle’ shopping mall in central Johor with a modern contemporary design, grand entrance statement, 18-feet height shop-fronts, spacious walkways between 35-53 feet and large atriums for exhibitions and promotions.

We passed by Yong Sheng Gift Shop which is one of the market leader of confectionery manufacturer in Malaysia that specialize in the production of premium quality pastry products. For example egg yolk pies, wife biscuits, tambun biscuits, pineapple cakes, wedding & full moon gift sets, moon cakes, new year cookies, festive hampers and cakes. It was started by a entrepreneur from Muar, Johor.

Assorted flavor of Swiss Rolls displayed in front of the shop. We did get to bring some of them home.

MBO Cinemas, one of the anchor tenant in Kluang Mall. They do show the latest movies according to the local date releases in Malaysia.

There's also a bowling alley which is called the Ampang Superbowl (all the way from Ampang eh :P). It looks as good as those located in KL and PJ.

There's a corner to chill after a tiring session of bowling.

Kluang Mall in support of Go Green campaign, placing a few decorations using used material. The mall also Wi-Fi enabled (a plus point!) to add convenience for visitors, and hosts special events throughout the year to bring together the community. The most important criteria for me to visit a mall is that the mall must have good makan places, a hypermarket, a cinema and lots of parking spaces and Kluang Mall fulfilled all this criteria. So what do you think?

Don't forget to experience city shopping whenever you are in Kluang!
For more information on Kluang Mall, check out their website at www.kluangmall.com
or their FB page at www.facebook.com/KluangMall

This is the end of Part 1, there's gonna be a few more parts of my visit to Kluang.
So do stay tuned for my upcoming blog post!

UFC & ONE a Global Duopoly of East versus West

$
0
0
As the UFC breaks into the Philippine market starting with its first show in the country on May 16, ONE Championship looks to up the ante with its own blockbuster event next week, April 24 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Both organizations are at the top of the heap in their respective regions, and have both played their part in raising the profile of mixed martial arts, now one of the world’s fastest rising sports.

One man who revels in the challenge of breaking into new markets is none other than ONE Championship CEO, Victor Cui. “I really feel the emergence of a global duopoly of East versus West,” said Cui, in an interview with Sherdog.com a few years back.

ONE Championship CEO, Victor Cui
Cui is of course a multinational himself, born and raised in Canada but with Filipino origins. He embodies both Eastern and Western cultures and is incidentally the perfect guy for the task of bringing the immense popularity of MMA over to Asia.

ONE Championship, established in 2011, is on the cusp of greatness, having held successful shows in countries such as Cambodia and Indonesia, where mixed martial arts is not yet a household term.

It has even successfully staged the first ever professional MMA event in mainland China last December, with a spectacular card in Beijing featuring the country’s best professionals and prospects — including a slam-bang main event featuring cage veteran Ji Xian and young prospect Song Ya Dong. With success in the region, Cui takes pride in ONE being the top dog in the East, while acknowledging its western counterpart.

“You’ve got UFC in the West, ONE Championship as biggest in the East. You see the storyline of East versus West play out in almost every industry you can think of, from Apple versus Samsung, YouTube versus Youku, Twitter versus Weibo, Facebook versus Renren,” said Cui.

“If you compare, UFC has got a 90-percent market share in the states. We’ve got a 90-percent market share in Asia. UFC is 90-percent caucasian, we’re 90-percet Asian, 10-percent non-Asian. We’re filling the biggest stadiums. We’ve got the biggest gates, biggest attendance,” Cui explained.

In fact, ONE Championship has amassed a widespread popularity in the region in the four years they have been in operation.

Beginning with little known local fighters in their first event, now transformed into transcendent superstars in their home countries, ONE Championship continues to scour every inch of Asia for the best talent and develop them into world-class athletes.

Now in the Philippines, when people hear the names Eduard Folayang and Team Lakay, they know who these guys are and what they represent. In Malaysia, Ann Osman, the nation’s first professional women’s MMA fighter has become a global superstar whose reach has extended even to the western hemisphere.

The list goes on and on and the potential is endless.

“We have a television reach of over 600 million viewers. We’ve got fantastic blue-chip sponsors on board, and UFC has the best sponsors on board,” said Cui.

With both the UFC and ONE Championship pushing the envelope for sports entertainment, doing their best to develop the sport into a global phenomenon, the opportunities to expand are limitless.

And they don’t just stop in the cage as well, the sport extends beyond the confines of the cold steel. Ronda Rousey, UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion recently starred in the box office hit, Fast and Furious 7 alongside co-stars Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker.

In Asia, Peter Davis is a cross-over star, model and actor, as well as a dominant force in ONE’s lightweight division. Osman bears the flag for women’s MMA, alongside former women’s boxing champion Ana Julaton.

With stars such as these, it’s no wonder more and more people are getting into the sport that was once considered brutal and barbaric. With more stringent rules and governing bodies putting the health and safety of the fighters first, the face of MMA has changed over the years and it’s all thanks to organizations like the UFC and ONE Championship.

As the UFC holds Fight Night Manila in a few weeks, so too will ONE Championship take the stage. And while the two organizations go head-to-head in a skirmish for global supremacy in the battlefield of MMA, the real winners are of course the fans.

ONE Championship: Valor of Champions is back in Manila on the 24th of April, featuring a fantastic main event wherein ONE Welterweight World Champion Ben Askren defends his title against top contender Luis Santos. It’s action that fans would certainly not want to miss.

The other day I was at Sunway Giza in Kota Damansara for the LIVE Match Viewing Party hosted by Fox International Channels (FIC). The place was pretty crowded as hundreds of fans witnessed eternal rivals Liverpool F.C. and Manchester United F.C. battle each other in High Definition (HD) at the Barclays Premier League (BPL).

Fans witnessed all the thrills and spills LIVE on Fox Sports, cheering on for their respective teams and jeering their rivals, in what was one of the most explosive and highly anticipated fixtures of this season.

A participant trying his luck with the Fox Sports Football Simulator
In addition to the LIVE telecast of the “Battle of the Reds”, there were several exciting activities organised for the fans, including the Fox Sports Football Simulator, Fox Sports Double Dribble and Play Station 3 Football Challenge. Not to mention the trivia sessions, where fans were going all out to win merchandises as well as prizes from Fox Sports and sponsors such as Revive, Uberman and MYEG.

There are also merchandises of both football teams sold at the event.

Prizes were also given out to the top two ‘Best Dressed’ male and female as well as those who came up top in the ‘Score Prediction’ activities respectively. The crowd was not also at the receiving end as Fox Sports goodie bags were distributed to the early birds. On top of that, there were football jugglers and cheerleaders entertaining them with their performances.

Freestylers electrifying the stage before kick-off
Cheerleaders also performed before the match.
“We are pleased to organise an event like this for the fans of English football, as we continue to bring our viewers the best in sports,” said Ms. Penny Tan, Marketing Director, FIC.

“Watching the two football giants battle it out is even more exciting when you are surrounded by hundreds of fans who are emotionally invested in the game. It’s great to see that all the rivalry and trash-talking is done in good fun and doesn’t get out of hand, regardless of the outcome. Additionally, we are glad to see the fans’ reception to all the activities organised, as everyone seemed to be on a mission to go home with a prize. I guess that is the beauty of events like this, as it not only entertains but also, ultimately, brings the fans together,” she added.

Prizes for the lucky draw, football juggling and also the best dress at the event.

In a typical ‘Battle of the Reds’ showcase, the match was filled with non-stop excitement the entire 90 minutes, with Manchester United getting the better of their bitter rivals, Liverpool, 2-1. Although I am an Arsenal fan but I do enjoy the event and watching the football match despite having Steven Gerard out of the field after only 40 seconds in the match.

Fans can tune in to FOX Sports (ASTRO Channel 812) and FOX Sports HD (ASTRO Channel 832) to catch all the action of BPL Live, week in and week out. For more information on the match fixtures and times, please visit http://tv.foxsportsasia.com/

Belvedere Vodka 'Light the Night' Party @ Play Club, The Roof

Earlier this month, I was invited to the Belvedere Vodka 'Light the Night' Party which was held at the Roof in Bandar Utama. It was my second event after the one I attended which featuring DJ Tenashar at Signature, The Roof. Upon arriving, we saw the set up of the Belvedere party in front of the Play Club entrance and we were asked to try out their light painting effects photography. It was quite cool I must say and suits the event very much.

The photo wall of the photos taken with the light painting effects. Guests were given a personalised photo printout of themselves as a keepsake from the party.
Belvedere, the world’s original luxury vodka, recently transformed one of Kuala Lumpur’s hottest night spots - Play Club @ The Roof, to a nightlife experience that truly shone. Themed ‘Light the Night’, this exclusive event treated Belvedere Vodka lovers to an edgy clubbing night of artistic light trail art, hot club beats, and an endless flow of super-premium Polish vodka.

The venue decked in captivating blue lights complete with signature Belvedere Trees in white hues, perfectly reflected the iconic features of the Polish vodka. Illuminated Belvedere Vodka bottles were also seen placed on customised display stands at all corners of the club; promising a picture-perfect Belvedere party experience of an ordinary night out.

Circling Belvedere words in the air! Haha!
High party spirits surrounded the club when the light poi performance parading a variety of geometric patterns played as the opening act of the night; showcasing the bold creativity, aspiration and fun side of Belvedere Vodka. These creative rhythmical light movements were traced through the air as the batons changed colour in perfect synchronization; reflecting the spirit and light of Belvedere Vodka in all the great cities of the world.

Just look at the colours! So nice, indeed it's a unique performance that capture the theme well.

PLAY Club’s resident DJ Kino Takamura and DJ H3 kept to the momentum of the night, showcasing unparalleled energy through their ecstatic music spins of RnB, electropop, dubstep and trap. KL’s elite socialisers and celebrities such as Mark Odea, Peter Davis, Carey Ng, Raj Aria, Joanne Kwan, and David Lian were seen partying the night away on the dance floor and amplified even more with Belvedere Vodka in hand. The drinks and the crowd were really great that night but only complain would be having a DJ that annoying mixing/shuffling RnB, Hip Hop and EDM songs in his playlist. Gotta keep it consistent for the party people yo!

It's us with the Belvedere Bear with illuminated Jeroboam Belvedere bottle

Youth Culture and Urbanization Drives Unlimited Internet Plan with P1 ToGo

Nowadays, internet is a necessity especially for the youth. They will be seen using the internet for study, work or even for leisure. So recently, Packet One Networks Sdn Bhd (P1) has announced its latest P1 ToGo promotion campaign, offering 1-month free subscription for those who purchase online. This is set to enable the 36% of data hungry youths aged from 20 to 34 (okay I'm still at that age range :D), especially urbanites, to stay connected with ease and worry-free on limited data usage.

As we all realized, there is a growing trend that youths in urban areas have multiple devices connected to the Internet simultaneously. In addition, heavy consumption of high definition (HD) content and utilization of large screen devices are identified as the main reasons of data limit depletion before the end of a bill cycle. Recognizing these consumer habits, the P1 ToGo campaign is offering more value to users by giving unlimited data with speed up to 1Mbps at only RM115.54 per month. So now we don't have to stuck at home just to use the unlimited data for downloads or uploads on our mobile devices and computer.

“Digital activities among consumers of all ages, especially the millennial generation, are increasing over the years, and we are very excited to see this trend,” said Lai Shu Wei, Chief Marketing Officer of P1. “With high penetration of social networking and online engagement, the need to be online at all times, anywhere and everywhere on multiple devices is high. At P1, we are set to fulfill these needs of the data hungry users and enable them to utilize the Internet to its full potential. ”

“Youths are migrating to urbans areas for better career opportunities. Majority of them would own multiple devices and depend heavily on Internet to find job as well as stay connected with the family,” added Shu Wei. “The MX 230 modem in the package would address their needs as the modem allows multiple devices to be connected and shared, indoor and outdoor, anytime.

With this MiFi modem, users are able to connect their laptop, and mobile devices, such as smartphones, and tablets, while they are on the go. And the good news is, those who subscribe online during the campaign period will enjoy free subscription for the first month,” concluded Shu Wei.
The campaign is running from 6 April to 13 May 2015.

Don't miss it out guys! :)

More information about this campaign is available on http://www.p1.com.my/mifi/.

#AABCSongkranAdventure 2015 – Trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand!

$

On the 11th of April, I went to Chiang Mai with 3 bloggers from AirAsia Blogger's Community as well for the Songkran festival. It was my very first time experiencing Songkran in Thailand itself although there's been a few 'local' ones held in Klang Valley but it's more like a pool party kind of event instead of an actual festival. For Songkran – the traditional water pouring is meant as a symbol of washing away all of their sins and bad luck, and it sometimes has fragrant herbs added if celebrated in the traditional manner. So I guess if you are having a lot of bad luck, a trip to Thailand for Songkran would be able to cleanse it.

From left: Ka Mei (the guardian), Calista Liew, Joel Wong, Charlotte Fong and myself!
At KLIA2, It didn't take us to decide that.... #TeamKaMei was born! All of us have not experienced Songkran yet and so we do not know what to expect but only want to have as much fun as we can.

Upon reaching Chiang Mai airport, we then headed to Duangtawan Hotel which is pretty near the canal where all the fun is. It is quite hot when we landed in Chiang Mai but we heard that there's storm for the past few days.

Posing with my water gun and dry clothes before all the wet action happened.
We got our water gun for 300 bath each (negotiation is a must) at the stalls by the roadside. There's a lot of different type of water guns, from small to big, those with water pack that you can carry on your back and those that shoot super strong water spray but only works for a single shot. We decided to buy the big one hoping it could spray further and last longer.

A group wefie in front of our hotel before heading to the canal.

Along the way we could see the local and tourist starting to spray and splash water to the passerby and it's 2 days before the actual festival date which is on the 13th April.

You'll get soaked with water before reaching the canal.

Those who are on the motorbike and tut tut were the easiest to shoot at. Haha...

People from around the world, wearing weird looking costume and even mask splashing icy cold water towards us without mercy.

Kamen Rider was spotted as he did not want to miss out the fun as well.

We finally reached the AirAsia stage, it was crazy I tell you. It was packed with humans, the crew on the stage keep spraying us with water jet spray, EDM music was blasting, people was dancing and everyone seems to be having a great time!

Just look at all those humans! One thing which I find it a bit weird and annoying is the vehicles that passed by near the stage, they could have blocked the entire road around the canal. It's somehow dangerous and the vehicles could have run through our feet.

A wefie on the AirAsia stage!

The shooting never ends...

Posers gotta post...

On the actual Songkran festival day

I believe this truck was a part of the Songkran festival ceremony...

Passing through the alley, kids are seen to be enjoying themselves and trying to shoot water at us too. There's plenty of backpackers inn seen when we were passing through the alley so if you don't mind to stay at this kind of place, it's cheap and very near to the canal.

A lucky shot with my iPhone before the girl's head was hit by the water.

Another wefie on the last day before leaving to the airport.

I would like to thank AirAsia for the opportunity to take part in #AABCSongkranAdventure, the Chiang Mai version. It has been a short but sweet trip for me to experience Songkran festival with the people around the world and at the same time, learning different cultures and tasting different food in Chiang Mai (food post will be out next time!).

AirAsia flies 2x daily from Kuala Lumpur to Chiang Mai. Travelers may also fly from Don Mueang, Bangkok to Chiang Mai with 12x daily flights operated by Thai AirAsia. I might be going to Chiang Mai for Songkran again next year. If you would like to go, maybe we can meet up there! Till then...

Last month, I was invited to catch the English Premier League matches between Man City vs Swansea City and Arsenal FC vs Man United at TBF, Sunway Giza as part of Tiger FC's Third ‘Big Away Game’.

The brand ambassadors are psyched for Tiger FC Big Away Game at TBF, Sunway Giza.
Tiger FC brought together hundreds of diehard football fans from across the Klang Valley to revel in celebration one final time this season. Held at TBF in Sunway Giza on Sunday, fans united not only to watch two longstanding rival teams battle it out, but to partake in the various on-ground activities, promotions and contests lined up. Fans who took up the challenge and defeated the formidable Tiger FC brand ambassadors at the Foosball Tourney were rewarded with a bucket of ice, cold Tiger Beer.

It certainly was a good night out and the perfect way to close the 2014/15 football season.
Tiger Beer marketing manager Tai See Wai says, “It has been a good season – for Tiger FC, the fans and league itself. We’ve seen some tremendous action and upsets as the teams fight for the coveted cup and a spot in the Top 4. We’re glad that Tiger FC has united like-minded fans to share these moments together.

Apart from the Big Away Game this season, Tiger FC also rewarded three fans via its football contest, The Real Pitch. The competition required fans to pitch why they should be the chosen one for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the United Kingdom. The grand prize rewarded fans with a 5D/4N trip to London with one stadium match, and a pub match viewing experience. The campaign also saw a collaboration with famous Malaysian YouTuber Joseph Germani, who produced the contest promotional video.

Oh ya, the final scores for the two matches were:-

I was invited to the Tiger Translate 2015 Media Preview held at Laundry Bar, The Curve on 27th of May 2015. Tiger Translate, a platform that champions creativity in art and music, returns bolder and edgier the second time around.

Local band, Amoura performing at the Tiger Translate media preview.
The event, which debuted last year, has already established itself globally as an arena that features unconventional collaborations of art and music. The adaptation here is no different as Tiger Translate continues to showcase creative “east meets west” efforts by local and international artists.

Tiger Beer marketing manager Tai See Wai said, “From the global accomplishment and our well-received debut last year, we can attest that Tiger Translate is emerging to be a good avenue for urban art and live music.

“We are very excited with the return of this platform that uncages new experiences in art and music. It pushes the envelope of creativity and we’re glad to present more amazing talents from both the eastern and western arena. We trust the fans will once again appreciate what we have lined up for them.”

Before the main event takes centre stage on June 13, Tiger Translate kicks off with three satellite shows. In the Klang Valley, local favourites Amoura, dayDream and Reach for the Skies will perform on May 27 at Laundry, The Curve; while Car Crash Hearts, Mad August and M.O.I.S.T on June 10 at Bricks & Barrels, Desa Sri Hartamas. Over in Penang, Grand Theft Xperiment, MoBeat and Damn Dirty Apes will serenade fans at SOHO Gastropub in Precinct 10 on June 5.

The finale, set to take place at APW in Bangsar, will bring forth a strong collection of alternative art. Enjoy the new iconic Tiger reinterpreted abstractly by local artist Nicholas Choong, who has been commissioned by the brand to design all Tiger Translate key art featured on all posters, and merchandising. Look out for a 3D Tiger art sculpture by Thailand’s Rukkit Kuanhawate, a funky bar designed by Hong Kong’s Parent’s Parents, a glass art installation by Lo uise Low as well as contemporary art pieces by Malaysia-based Andrew T-Crum.

Blood Red Shoes (UK)
My Little Airport
They Will Kill Us All
Tim Exile
Twilight Action Girl
Wonfu
Artistic fans can also demonstrate their creative flairs by throwing paint-filled water balloons on a blank canvas to create a large piece of art while early birds get to take home a limited edition Tiger Translate / Huggaz beer bottle sleeves designed by Rukkit, Low and Parent’s Parents.

On the music front, Tiger Translate has assembled an amazing line-up of indie musicians from near and far including homegrown artists Twilight Action Girl and rock band They Will Kill Us All, My Little Airport (from Hong Kong), Wonfu (Taiwan), and British acts Tim Exile and Blood Red Shoes.

Like last year’s event, Tiger Translate 2015 will once again bring forth a pulsating composition of tunes and stylistic display of art. For the upcoming Fall/Winter 2015 collection, U.S. high performance sports label Under Armour packs a new punch with an expanded product range tailored to suit every need you might have, and every condition you might face. Be it rain or shine, day or night, in the gym or the great outdoors; whether you’re training for speed and agility, going for distance and endurance, or simply stretching your muscles for recovery – Under Armour has just the right athletic performance gear to help keep you on your game.

Scorching sun or pelting rain, rocky gravel or hard concrete – U.S. high performance label Under Armour protects you against the elements so you only perform better
"When it comes to sports, Under Armour has always been about pushing boundaries. Not just for athletes, but also for all pursuing their fitness journeys. We are also constantly advancing our technology and innovation, aiding athletes to be at their best during trainings and at competitions in all conditions,” says Michael Binger, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Triple Pte Ltd, the exclusive distributor of Under Armour in Southeast Asia.

Protect Against the Elements
The Under Armour Storm clothing and shoes are built with water-resistant technology to fight off the elements. The technology features incredibly lightweight, breathable material with durable water repellant (DWR) finish to repel rain and snow, as well as to shelter against wind, without adding bulk. There are three different levels of protection against the elements, and Under Armour’s Storm technology outerwear has got you covered from tropical climate to the cold country you’re heading to for the holidays, depending on your needs.

Put Your Best Foot Forward
With a strong focus on footwear this season, Under Armour has updated its range of athletic footwear with fresh additions, including the UA SpeedForm® Fortis. Joining Under Armour's renowned line of SpeedForm® shoes, the SpeedForm® Fortis features an ArmourVent™ mesh upper for true breathability, and a 6mm 4D Foam™ footbed in the cavity of the midsole that molds to the foot and enhances cushioning. Designed for stability and flexibility, the Charged Cushioning delivers superior impact protection, energy return and adaptive support, while a second layer of Micro G™ foam provides 40% of forefoot flex – the perfect amount to allow you to run stronger.

The Under Armour SpeedForm® Fortis, a novel Fall/Winter 2015 addition, created to help you run strong

Also new this fall is the UA Charged Bandit, which features an ArmourVent™ upper, with seamless overlays that add structure and support without the bulk. Charged Cushioning and Micro G™ foam work together in the midsole to decrease the rate of pronation and to deliver the best in impact protection and energy return. Furthermore, anatomically placed flex grooves and strategically placed rubber traction enable a smooth ride and transition, and offer extreme comfort and stability for long distance running so you can go the extra mile.

Both the SpeedForm® Fortis and Charged Bandit will also come in exclusive Night versions that sport a breathable and fully reflective upper and 360-degree reflectivity for early morning and night-time safety.

Under Armour has also collaborated with Michelin to update its trail running range with the UA Fat Tire Low, inspired by the tires used on “fat bikes”, which run at lower PSI (pounds per square inch) and can bounce over tough terrain, enabling riders to ride through anything. In partnership with Michelin, Under Armour has developed the ideal outdoor compound and traction pattern, providing excellent cross-slope grip and unparalleled all-terrain performance. The Fat Tire Low also features Charged Cushioning and is bottom-loaded with softer, high-rebound foam, allowing it to be responsive yet adaptive to terrain.

Meanwhile, the popular UA SpeedForm® Gemini now comes in new colourways this season – classic, masculine tones of black, white and blue for men, and vibrant shades of purple, pink, blue and neon yellow for women.

Sun Protection Technology – Coldblack® and Sunblock
Under Armour continues to integrate its signature Coldblack® technology into its Golf and running apparel this season. The Coldblack® technology protects the user from harmful UV rays and reflects the heat of the sun, keeping you cooler and more comfortable in brutally hot conditions.

Now endorsed by the Skin Cancer Foundation, Under Armour’s Sunblock apparel are testified to effectively provide sun protection against UPF30 and UPF50, protecting the skin against UVA and UVB rays that can cause premature skin ageing and skin cancer.

Both product lines see an extension from the previous season, branching from tops into bottoms such as capris. The Coldblack® and Sunblock series remain exclusively for men and women respectively.

Making All Athletes Better
As the originators of athletic performance apparel, Under Armour is committed to continuously innovate their performance training gear, engineering apparel to footwear to make all athletes better. Featuring the brand’s key ArmourVent™ and HeatGear® technology that provide increased breathability and enhanced ventilation, Under Armour’s signature Baselayers are updated with a new performance flex panel that maximises mobility and relieves chaffing and abrasion. The compression fit supports muscles so they vibrate less, giving you less fatigue and more power.

Under Armour’s prominent Alter Ego compression range is also here to stay. This time, both DC Superheroes and Marvel fans can look forward to donning their favourite characters – such as Batman, Superman, Captain America and Flash – as training gear for added motivation.

Committed to have you covered from top to bottom, Under Armour has expanded its training footwear range to aid you in your workouts all year round with the UA Men’s SpeedForm® Phenom, UA Men’s Charged One, UA Men’s Phenom Proto, UA Micro G™ Sting TR 2, and UA Micro G™ Limitless TR – all created to support your training with strength, stability, and speed.

LOL Events is proud to announce the advent of its first comedy festival called ‘LOL Fest’. The comedy festival will host an eclectic mix of both well-known and up-coming local and international comedy performers. The soon-to-be annual comedy festival will commence with a week-long Laughter Exhibition.

Douglas Lim, Andrew Netto, Phoon Chi Ho & Fuzz will be rocking the mic on the 30th July at The Bee, Publika
What makes the LOL Fest special is the sheer diversity of specially produced and curated shows. Japanese comedy, bilingual comedy, comedy magic, improvisation comedy and a variety of stand-up comedy shows are all part of a packed 4 day schedule. Shows also vary for different age groups with dual show ratings of ‘13+’ and ‘18+’. The LOL exhibition themed ‘Laughter Makes the World Go Round’ will be held at the Boulevard of Publika, beginning July 27. This exhibition explores the many different aspects of laughter as perceived through the eyes of various artists from different disciplines and background. It is an exploration of humour and laughter, and what makes it so uniquely human. The exhibition will include photographs, cartoons, doodles, paintings, illustrations and digital images from local and regional artists.

The festival will also debut a cluster of Japanese comedians from Yoshimoto Kogyo, one of the biggest entertainment group in Japan with more than 100 years in the industry. Shihlin Taiwan Street Snack Squid Ink Tempura Review

$

0
I don't mind settle at Shihlin Taiwan Street Snack outlet for lunch or dinner because I find that their Happy Rice Box is pretty good. Apart from that, I also like their XXL Crispy Chicken and Seafood Tempura.

Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks is luring its loyal fans over to the dark side with its latest creation,
the Squid Ink Tempura  (墨魚汁甜不辣).
So recently when I walked passed one of their outlet, I noticed that they have a new item in their menu. It's the Squid Ink Tempura which actually looks like their existing Seafood Tempura but it comes in black. (Sounds like the Batman Dark Knight movie eh... haha!). Anyway, being a fan of their Seafood Tempura, I wouldn't mind to give it a try.

Using a highly guarded seafood based recipe that is infused with a dose of black squid ink, the Squid Ink Tempura is presented in jet black, making it mysterious, sophisticated, sexy and captivating all at once. In line with its black theme, this new creation will be specially packed and served in custom printed matt black paper bags, elevating it to a class above the rest. And to top it off, customers will be asked to sprinkle a pinch of fairy dust parsley for added flavour and to give it a good shake before savouring.

My favorite dish of all time at Shihlin Taiwan Street Snack – Happy Rice Box! Now I can pair it with Squid Ink Tempura!
Appearances aside, the potential health benefits of black squid ink cannot be ignored. Squid ink has been proven to be rich in iron and antioxidants, and scientists believe that these antioxidants have strong preventive lipid oxidation abilities – a benefit which is in turn possibly linked to a lower risk of heart disease in humans. With such positive findings, the health-conscious can now look beyond their daily greens and opt for black instead. Black is indeed, the new green!

In conjunction with the launch of the Squid Ink Tempura, Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks is pleased to announce an exclusive “#HeiHeiHey~” promotion, starting from 22 May 2015. Customers who shout “HeiHeiHey~” or "黒黒嘿~" along with any words of their choice (such as “HeiHeiHey~ I want you!”) when ordering the Squid Ink Tempura will be entitled to an immediate discount off their purchase. Customers will also be encouraged to post pictures of themselves with their purchases using the official hashtag – #HeiHeiHey.

A better professional product shot to end this post, looks pretty closed to the actual one eh.
The Squid Ink Tempura is available for a limited period only, in Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks stores in Singapore and Malaysia until stocks run out. For complete store listings, please visit their website at www.ShihlinSnacks.com.tw
