Starbucks Malaysia celebrates coffee passion and craft with its new Autumn seasonal offerings. Available in stores starting 12 September 2018, Starbucks is introducing three new coffee beverages with unique flavors and handcrafted artistry. Featuring ingredients like chocolate coated cocoa nibs, caramel sauce and lightly spiced cookie crumble, the new beverages possess the perfect notes to complement to Starbucks® Signature Espresso.

Heineken Malaysia Launched The Great Brew Fest at Souled Out, Desa Sri Hartamas

On the 21st September, Heineken Malaysia has launched The Great Brew Fest, a a nationwide celebration of great quality brews and craftsmanship, where beer enthusiasts and social drinkers get to enjoy fantastic beer promotions for this month. It's time to gather your friends and revel in a variety of “hoppy” happenings at The Great Brew Fest and have fun while learning something new about your favourite brews with Heineken Malaysia’s portfolio of premium international beers, stouts and ciders.

I was invited to attend the launch and saw the unveiling of Tiger Amber Lager, exclusively brewed for The Great Brew Fest. The launch which took place at SOULed OUT in Desa Sri Hartamas, attended by beer fans, guest and patrons of SOULed OUT itself.

We can enjoy great value on our favourite brews from 1st October – 10th November nationwide at all participating outlets. To make it even more exciting, there are some fun brew games and great prizes to be won valued at more than RM250,000 in total.

Roland Bala, Managing Director of Heineken Malaysia, unveiled the festival beer at The Great Brew Fest kick-off today, saying, “Be it lagers, stouts, ale, ciders or pilsners we have a portfolio of great quality brews for beer fans to enjoy.  We recognise that consumers have discerning tastes and are keen to explore new choices. This year we decided to add a festival beer, a limited release Tiger Amber Lager, to the line-up of our already great brews to bring a higher quality experience to all our consumers.”

The limited release Tiger Amber Lager is the first locally brewed amber lager, made possible by the decades of brewing expertise and craftsmanship at Heineken Malaysia. “There’s nothing like having your own locally brewed festival beer to mark the occasion,” added Roland.

Roland officiated the launch with the tapping of the first keg and ceremonial pour to a cheering crowd of beer fans. The limited release Tiger Amber Lager will be available at selected bars. Beer enthusiasts can also sample the festival beer on the “The Great Brew Bus” – a mobile tap bar – in Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Penang and Johor Bahru.

Consumers will also be able to own a first-of-its-kind set of the “brew inspired art” limited edition designer mugs, created by HEINEKEN Malaysia in collaboration with some of Malaysia’s most talented and renowned artists: CLOAKWORK, Kenji Chai, Beautiful Machines featuring Sling, Jarold Sng and Lynda (Pink Tattoos). The stunning designs are laser etched on to metallic-coloured mugs, worthy of a collector’s item. 



Commenting on the “brew inspired art” feature, Andrew Woon, Sales Director of Heineken Malaysia, explained that the stunning designs depict the craft essence and incorporate lesser-known brew facts where consumers can pick up something new whilst enjoying their favourite brews.

GameStart 2018 Returns for a Weekend of Fun and Gaming Delight

GameStart 2018 (#GameStart2018), Southeast Asia’s Premier Game Convention, celebrates its 5th year on 13 & 14 October 2018 with the ultimate gaming content at Suntec Convention Centre. Organisers Eliphant announced a series of returning favourites as well as new and exciting content for everyone, including game showcases and previews, tabletop gaming, esports, indie games, retro gaming, and cosplay. Esports fans can gear up for exciting competition as SEA Major (SEAM) 2018 plays host to more international tournaments. Mobile esports also takes centerstage as SEA Mobile Major (SEAMM) plays host to the very first Shadowverse Contenders Cup for the Southeast Asia & Oceania region.


An exciting guest lineup awaits visitors at GameStart 2018. Organisers revealed a guest appearance by voice actress Elise Zhang, who is best known as the voice of Mei, a character from one of the world’s most popular games, Overwatch.

New additions to GameStart include the debut of GameStart Masterclasses, where well-known creatives and personalities from the international games industry are invited to run specialised masterclasses. GameStart Workshops, developed in collaboration with No Average Joe, is a series of workshops and talks that focus on a range of general gaming-related topics. GameStart MasterClasses will be held on 10 and 12 October while GameStart Workshops will be held during the convention.

SEA Major (SEAM) 2018, one of the largest fighting game tournaments in Asia, returns to GameStart 2018 bigger and better! Take your Game Art to a whole new level with the GameStart Masterclasses on 10 and 12 October. For the first time, two acclaimed international game artists, will be in town to conduct exclusive intensive sessions for budding and professional game artists in Singapore.

Jacqueline A.X Jocson, Art Director, Concept Artist & Instructor at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco will share insights on visual storytelling and the concept behind creating iconic and memorable characters on 10 October. Carlo Arellano, Art Director at Super Evil Megacorp, will focus on Advanced Character Design on 12 October.

The Masterclasses are organized by GameStart Asia and held at *SCAPE, the venue sponsor. Seats are priced at SGD120. Registration will open on the official GameStart site closer to date.

GameStart Workshops, powered by No Average Joe, will be held on 13 and 14 October within the GameStart halls. Sessions range from a hands-on workshop by Retrocade for those who are interested in building their very own mini arcade machine, as well as learning basic game animation. Deputy Minister of Youth & Sports Launches Fresh Breath For Malaysia Youth Empowerment Campaign

The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Steven Sim launched Fresh Breath For Malaysia, a youth empowerment and digital communication campaign by Guardian Malaysia and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, on the 25th September, 2018.


A recent study of Malaysian dental students found that one in every two suffer from clinical oral malodour or bad breath . Worldwide figures indicate that from 22 percent to 50 percent of the global population suffer from moderate bad breath . Bad breath can have social and psychological effects on suffers including low self-confidence and low self-esteem, and it should be taken seriously . 

Guardian Malaysia, the largest health, beauty and personal care chain in Malaysia, with more than 400 stores nationwide held the campaign in conjunction with the introduction of its new Fresh Mouth 6 Actions mouthwash range. 

The campaign’s goal is to empower Limkokwing students to creatively interpret the theme of Fresh Breath for Malaysia as a showcase of positive energy towards the nation while encouraging better oral hygiene through visual expression and multimedia. A total of RM14,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the top ten entries across two categories. 

According to the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Steven Sim, the Fresh Breath for Malaysia campaign offers youth for Malaysia and around the globe the opportunity to be facilitators of change who can communicate from the heart and responsibly on an issue that afflicts many. 

“Today you take on oral care, tomorrow you take on even greater issues. A large part of the openness in Malaysia is driven by digital life as the reach and impact are profound. The challenge is to communicate responsibly and with kindness when tackling sensitive issues. The Fresh Breath for Malaysia campaign by Guardian and Limkokwing is a good platform to empower and to incentivise youth to have their say,” YB Steven Sim said. 

More than 100 entries were received from Limkokwing students, with 20 shortlisted  entries sharing the rationale for their work before the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, the top management of Guardian and Limkokwing, industry partners and more than 500 of their peers. 

Guardian Health and Beauty Sdn Bhd, Chief Executive Officer Mr Soren Lauridsen said of the Fresh Breath for Malaysia campaign: “It is a platform for youth to be empowered to trust their vision of tackling the ‘taboo’ issue of bad breath in inspirational ways that allow more people to join the conversation on better oral hygiene with passion. They will have done something meaningful and important for many Malaysian youth – getting the problem of bad breath out in the open, and offering a way to talk about it.”


The Guardian Fresh Mouth 6 Actions Mouth Wash reduces dental plaque, prevents cavities, strengthens teeth, freshens breath, promotes healthier gums and restores mineral to enamel while killing 99.9% of germs. There are three variants of Cool Mint, Peppermint and Tea Leaf. 

When used as part of a complete oral care routine of twice daily brushing, flossing and with a good diet, mouthwashes may offer additional benefit in terms of reducing bad breath and cavities .

This 40-year track record gives the University an enormous advantage in providing valuable experiences to students. Limkokwing students work with some of the largest and most successful brands worldwide that market a wide range of products now including Guardian. This unique collaboration with industry has also been extended to build competitiveness and global reputation through innovative design and effective branding.” Dato’ Raja Aznil explained. 

Limkokwing University is a multicultural learning institution that provides students with industry exposure. Students gain industry insights and professional networking opportunities giving them the extra edge needed to succeed in a globalised environment.

Online voting will begin on September 20, and the best digital communication campaign for Fresh Breath for Malaysia will be determined via the deliberation of an industry panel and online votes.

October – A Year Older, A Year Wiser

Yup, I am getting older. Not a surprise. I'm just glad that I am still able to write this entry. The time passes incredibly fast and it's only less than 3 months to go until the end of 2018. So I will try my best to make it a habit to write about my personal thoughts regarding the current issues which have been happening for the past few weeks and also some update about myself.

For those who have not read about my August entry, or maybe you have. Here's some more update from where I have left it. I've gotten back my laptop last month after sending it to the service centre. It took about three days for them to diagnose the problem and then another two weeks to replace the motherboard. It cost me a lot but looking at the price of a brand new Macbook Pro now, the lowest specs is priced at RM5,932.00. That's crazy expensive and I thought technology should be getting cheaper every year. I guessed this doesn't apply to Apple products. I bought my Macbook Pro 13" back in 2011 and it cost me RM3,799 which I think is a decent price for a Pro model.

Many people asked me why do I need to stick to macOS and I should buy a Windows laptop for half the price but here I dare to say that if you have used macOS for a period of time, there's no way that you will want to go back to Windows. There might be limitation in terms of certain software or in the gaming section but it's a super powerful work horse. I've used my laptop for seven years now and it's still as good as those brand new Windows with Intel i3 processor laptop in the market. It just unfortunate that my laptop could not update to the latest macOS Mojave.

My Singapore trip in September 2018

During last month's long weekend, I went down to Singapore for a 4 days 3 night trip. Although it was quite short thanks to the long weekend traffic jam, I enjoyed myself a lot with the company of my friends and getting the food which I have planned to eat before the trip. Some food were good to be honest and there's one which was super overrated. Damn regret paying SGD6 (RM18) for it!

 Other than chilling with friends and food hunting, I have also visited Sentosa Sandsation: MARVEL Edition at Siloso Beach and I was really impressed with the huge sand sculptures there. I might write about it soon and also a separate blog post dedicated to Singapore food. Let me know if you want to read it and I'll try to post it up as soon as possible.

This month marked the third year renewing my car insurance. Another chunk of my salary spent there. I hope that I can just travel to work by MRT or LRT train just like my colleagues but too bad the nearest train to my place is the slowpoke KTM – Oh hi, new Malaysia, same old KTM service. Year end is coming soon, so I need to save more money to plan for next year's trip or perhaps for something bigger? Hahaha...

Last but not least... my birthday is coming soon. Like really soon. I mean it's literally less than 24 hours. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me! In the coming years, I wish that I am able to achieve financial freedom, focus and spend more time on my priorities and also to be able to travel more. Sunway Lagoon Celebrates World Animal Day with a Pledge Towards Sustainability

Celebrated on 4 October every year, World Animal Day is an international day of action for animal rights and welfare. With a mission to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe, this annual celebration which dates back to 1925 unites the international animal welfare movement, mobilising it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals.

To coincide with World Animal Day, Sunway Lagoon’s Wildlife Park – an interactive and educational zoo featuring more than 150 species-specific exhibits of exotic animals and a diverse range of birds, fish, reptiles and mammals from around the world – held a special campaign to promote its initiatives towards sustainability.

Indeed, Sunway Lagoon’s wildlife park is unique in itself and has been long hailed amongst the animal welfare fraternity and families as a must-visit destination. The interactive concept behind the attraction encourages visitors to not only learn about the animals but to get up close and personal with these “friends”.

In recent times, the Wildlife Park at Sunway Lagoon has stepped up efforts towards being more sustainable. Among these, Sunway Lagoon announced its support towards two of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the United Nations. The SDG programme contains a total of 17 goals which the United Nations aims to achieve by the year 2030. It is a universal call to action, in a bid to end poverty, protect the planet and to ensure that all people can enjoy the diverse richness which Mother Nature exudes.

Of these 17 goals, Sunway Lagoon’s Wildlife Park has, without equivocation, committed towards supporting two of these goals. These include Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal #12), aimed at ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns and Life on Land (Goal #15), which aims to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

The World Animal Day celebrations at Sunway Lagoon’s Wildlife Park also took on an exciting yet heartwarming turn this year, when the park announced the arrival of its latest ‘resident’ – a new sun bear cub. Sunway Lagoon will also be presenting one of the most unique and wildest dining experiences at its Wildlife Park together with some of its animals, which include its White Lions, Black Panther and White-handed Gibbons.

Guests were specially invited to Sunway Lagoon Wildlife Park’s World Animal Day celebrations. Wildlife enthusiasts, both young and old enjoyed a host of activities and initiatives specially curated to mark this meaningful celebration. These included a special appearance by the sun bear cub, a display by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN), a multi-animal show, a contest to name the new sun bear cub, a scavenger hunt aptly titled WAD-a-quest and a Save the Earth Pledge Wall, where visitors can mark their pledge towards protecting and preserving Mother Nature. 

“For World Animal Day this year, we wanted to create an experience where people of all ages can enjoy Sunway Lagoon Wildlife Park, while learning more about how they can play a role in protecting our environment. All this ties in with our commitment to be more responsible and sustainable, yet presenting a unique and exciting opportunity for the public to enjoy, especially the younger ones, because they are the future of our planet, and will take on the baton towards environmental conservation,” said Sean Choo, General Manager of Sunway Lagoon. 


Students from Sunway International School (SIS) got to have a sneak peek into the fun and excitement that awaits visitors at Sunway Lagoon’s Wildlife Park’s World Animal Day celebrations when the park held a special Wildlife Encounter event at the school’s parking lot on 3 October.

Students also had the opportunity to participate in the contest to name the Wildlife Park’s new sun bear, and sign the Pledge Wall, which was also set up in the school compound. Students also received discount vouchers, which were redeemable towards Sunway Lagoon’s entrance fee.

The main course of the day, the yummy Jack Daniel's Baby Back Ribs with a side of coleslaw and onion rings. The meat were superbly tender, easily fall of the bones and it was really flavourful.

Verdict: It's ABSOLUTELY SUPER SPICY without a doubt! If you can't take spicy food, I will recommend you to avoid this but if you love spicy food and the usual cili padi consumption doesn't give you the kick anymore, then you gotta try this. The popcorn chicken's taste before adding the powder was delicious on its own. Then, I poured in the entire packet of powder and I truly regretted my decision. My tongue was burning hot and it's numb due to the mala ingredient. The Alkaline water saves the day... trust me, you'll need it. Overall, it's delicious and definitely a flame blowing experience for me. Go ahead and try it out yourself.

Tiger Uncage Street Food Media Preview at Tiffin Food Court

On the 24th of October, I attended the Tiger Uncage Food Street media preview which took place at Tiffin Food Court in Petaling Jaya. Tiger Beer Malaysia has kickstarted its Uncage campaign with the launch of its brand film featuring three Malaysian uncaged heroes.

Im Cheah, Herukh Jethwani and Jun Chan shared their experiences of challenging street food conventions and the ways they overcame their fear to follow their dreams. Tiger Beer wanted to give media a sneak peek of what these uncaged heroes have in store for the upcoming Uncage Street Food Festival later this year and hosted an intimate get-together for guests to meet the inspiring Malaysian chefs.

Members of the media were treated to specially curated dishes over a couple of ice-cold Tiger beers at the exclusive preview. Im, Herukh and Jun prepared two exclusive dishes each for the event and shared their experiences on how they overcame societal pressures to pursue their dreams and find their tiger within.

Im, a full-time ‘baconist’ prepared her famous bacon and sambal ikan bilis popcorn, as well as a pork bacon and gula Melaka (palm sugar) popcorn variation, and a dessert dish ‘Going Bananas Over Bacon’ that incorporates bacon ice cream and pisang goreng (banana fritters) topped with sticky-sweet rum gula Melaka caramel.

Herukh, an adventurous chef who refuses to play it safe, prepared an innovative mini tandoori pork ribs tacos sautéed in crispy prawn chilli, garlic and curry leaves dish, and his famous Siew Yoke Briyani, for guests to enjoy.

Jun, a chef with a passion for soul food prepared his exclusive ramen burger with Tiger Beer cheddar cheese sauce, and a dish called ‘Main Bola’, made from egg plant, minced brisket meatball, sweet potato gravy with a local touch of belacan sofrito, ayam kampong egg and salted egg crumble.

While helping themselves to the one-of-a-kind local delicacies prepared by the chefs, members of the media had the opportunity to mingle with the uncaged heroes and learn more about how they challenged street food conventions, as well as hear from Jun’s parents on their experience. Tiger Beer then revealed the exciting surprise by announcing the dates for its Uncage Street Food Festival, which will be held on 1st and 2nd December.

My favorite dish goes to Herukh Jethwani's famous Siew Yoke Biryani dish. The rice was so fragrant and the siew yoke was nicely done!

Fans will be able to enjoy the signature dishes by these uncaged heroes alongside a variety of street food delicacies by other local vendors such as myBurgerLab, The Porki Society, Ticklish Ribs & ‘Wiches, Pho King and Makirito, under one roof. Foodies are in for a treat, and can be part of this unique experience as these chefs challenge local street food conventions with their one-of-a-kind delicacies.
